  Always a Catch! is a romantic comedy series produced by TROYCA that was released in the Spring 2026 season. It is based on a light novel written by Mayo Momoyo. The adaptation was directed by Akira Oguro, director of GIANT BEASTS OF ARS (2023).

  The story follows Maria "Mimi" Annovazzi, a martial arts prodigy and heir to the ducal family of a small nation, when she suddenly loses her status as heir due to the birth of her little brother and now must find a decent man to marry. Being unable to find a suitable match in her own country, she transfers to the neighboring country and publicly has her nonexistent engagement to the prince broken off due to a case of mistaken identity. This sets the stage for Mimi's journey to find a husband while stumbling into friendships, romance, and plenty of ridiculous situations along the way. __Story: 7/10__ Always a Catch! never tries to reinvent the romantic comedy genre, though its description is a bit misleading. It's setup and summary sound like it could become a surprisingly dramatic political story. Mimi loses her inheritance, is shipped off to another kingdom, and is publicly humiliated before she's even had a chance to introduce herself with an engagement she didn't even know she had. There are plenty of opportunities for court intrigue, revenge, or heavier emotional conflict. Instead, the series chooses the opposite approach. Rather than dwelling on betrayal or political consequences, the story turns almost every unfortunately circumstance into an opportunity for comedy. This surprised me at first because I'm so used to fantasy romances taking themselves at least a modicum more seriously. Though I expected a degree of lightheartedness, I was pleasantly surprised at how Mimi rolls with nearly everything thrown at her, and the series is much better for it. The pacing remains light through all twelve episodes. There are political elements scattered throughout, but they mostly exist to facilitate character interactions rather than create high-stakes drama. It's a comfortable, low-stress viewing experience that is more interested in making the audience smile than be on the edge of their seat. The romance itself is probably the weakest part. It's fine and serves its purpose, but it's never particularly compelling. The chemistry between the leads is pleasant enough, but it lacks the emotional weight necessary to make the show anything beyond a fun seasonal romcom. Overall, the writing succeeds in being what it wants to be and nothing more. It's not trying to become the next great fantasy romance but simply trying to be entertaining and for the most part, it succeeds. __Characters: 7/10__ Without question, Mimi carries the series. She is so much fun to watch. She's not shy, overly elegant, or constantly flustered like many protagonists in similar stories. Mimi is energetic, carefree, and refreshingly confident. Her martial arts background leads to hilarious situations, and her straightforward personality bounces wonderfully off the rest of the cast. She has enough charisma to keep even slower episodes entertaining. Renato, unfortunately, never quite reaches the same level. He's likeable, but I didn't find him very memorable as a romantic lead. The series clearly wants the audience to swoon over him, yet I was far more interested in his brother, Placido, than him. Whether its because his personality is more subdued or because long-haired men aren't my type, I'm not sure. Placido, on the other hand, is far more engaging, even if his name is absolutely ridiculous. His romance with Aida also has more emotional depth, so I was more invested in them than the central romance. Mimi's family is another highlight. They really add to the comedy and have excellent chemistry together. The supporting cast as a whole is consistently enjoyable, which is important to a comedy like this. __Visuals: 8/10__ This is a consistently attractive production. The animation isn't flashy, but it doesn't need to be. Character designs are appealing, the settings are colorful without being overwhelming, and the action scenes have enough energy to keep them engaging. It overall has a clean, polished looked that suits the cheerful atmosphere perfectly. __Audio: 8/10__ I watched this in subbed and the performances were consistent across the board, especially Mimi's. Many of the show's funniest moments land because of the enthusiastic delivery rather than dialogue alone. The soundtrack is enjoyable and lighthearted without stealing the spotlight. Both the opening and ending are upbeat and fit the series' personality. __Enjoyment: 7/10__ I had no expectations going into this, but I had a good time. It's funny, charming, visually pleasant, and never overstays its welcome. The comedy lands better than the romance, and Mimi is more than capable of carrying the show. Could the romance have been stronger? Yes. Could the political elements have been explored more deeply? Probably. But that's not what this series is trying to accomplish. Sometimes it's nice to watch a show that is simply comfortable. One that doesn't rely on excessive drama or shocking plot twists, but instead delivers a steady stream of jokes, likeable characters, and wholesome fun. It's a fun, feel-good romantic comedy. If you're looking for something to brighten your week, this is an easy recommendation.
