68/100I liked this anime. It's a 6.8/10, but I’ve 100% seen a lot better anime, even in the 12 episode anime area.Continue on AniListPlot
- The anime has close to 0 plot.
- There's really not much character development other than Yuu getting more creepy, and the girls all becoming “friends.” In reality, it’s just Koizumi becoming a little bit more tolerant of Yuu, and her tolerating Misa and Jun. Although she never really had too much of a problem, if at all, with Misa and Jun in the first place, even though she did fire back at Misa a bit in episode 2 (Hokkyoku) and isolated herself from Jun also in episode 2 (K-K-K-Koizumi-san).
- In the end, they all tolerate each other sort of.
Characters - Yuu
- Yuu is extremely creepy, and I didn’t really like her overall character because of that. She got especially creepy in episodes 8-12, so if you plan to watch this, beware; her character is not likable.
- She doesn’t really have many redeeming qualities, and I find her quite annoying because she’s very obsessive, pushy, irresponsible, and dramatic. She’s definitely one of the more unlikeable MCs I’ve encountered, but if you can get past her, the anime is pretty good, especially for not really having a big plot. Overall, I’d give her personality a 2/10.
- Her character design is very basic. It’s blue throughout and honestly nothing special. It might even be worse than average. You can tell not much thought went into her character design, and it definitely could’ve been better; therefore, I’ll give her design a 3/10. Not the worst I’ve seen, but could’ve 100% been improved upon.
- Yuu is 100% my least favorite character in the anime.
- Koizumi
- Koizumi is pretty cold, and she’s definitely a loner, but I honestly really liked her character. She tries to do her own thing and is extremely reasonable, which is exactly why I like her. She’s probably the 2nd most normal person in the series. I’ll give Koizumi’s personality a 5/10; she’s an overall pretty average character, nothing too special about her.
- I think Koizumi’s character design is pretty basic, but there seems to be some thought put into it. She’s described as very pretty, and you can tell. Her blonde hair represents ramen noodles, and her eyes seem to represent meat/ charsiu (???). She looks like the average schoolgirl overall, though. Taking all this into consideration, I’d give her design a 6.5/10.
Koizumi is probably my favorite character. Compared to Jun, it was pretty close (this will be elaborated on), but she is the main character and is the one who loves ramen, so she gets 1st.
- Jun
- Jun is described to be a bit of a nerd, school-oriented, responsible, reasonable, and a bit insecure/ anxious. She also doesn’t have many major personality changes, but she’s off the bat 100% the most normal character in the series. She’s my favorite character because, as a teenager, she’s extremely relatable, and I just love how reasonable she is. I’d probably give her personality a 6.3/10. She’s nothing special, but I’ll give her some points for being the most normal, reasonable, and not annoying.
- Jun’s character design is pretty plain and again, is nothing special. Yuu and Misa don’t really have any complementary colors in their designs, but Jun at least does with her glasses. I don’t really like her haircut, but it’s not too bad. Green also isn’t my favorite color, but I do like her sweater. Overall, I’d give her character design a 3.5/10, slightly better than Yuu, because she’s still practically monotone, but at least she has the different colored purpley-pink glasses.
- Misa
- Misa is described as pretty, popular, and non-school-oriented. She wants to be a model or idol and doesn’t know if she wants to continue schooling. She’s pretty annoying and 100% a tsundere. At some points, I found her insufferable, but she’s also pretty relatable. Because of this, she’s probably my 3rd favorite character in the series, so next to last above Yuu.
- Misa’s character design is just like Yuu’s and Jun’s, very plain. She’s got some interesting hair, but I’ve definitely seen similar hairstyles in other anime. She doesn’t have any complementary colors, but I do like the color pink. Overall, I’d give her character design a 3.3/10. I like it more than Yuu’s, but it’s still not good.
Character Development
- Yuu’s character development is honestly just her emotions being amplified. Her whole character is just somebody who is obsessed with Koizumi-san. You can’t really take her seriously for anything, and that’s even supported in episode 7 (Nationwide) by Misa and Jun.
- Jun and Misa don’t really have any character plot, but have some
- Jun becomes more okay with eating ramen and hot noodle soups again (sorta).
- Misa gets a boyfriend in one episode, and he breaks up with her.
Art
- The ramen looked delicious in every scene. It never looked bad in any episode.
- As the series progressed, you could tell that the art got worse. Many of the scenes had awkward proportions in the faces of the characters, especially Yuu. The chin proportions for her head and her eye width were completely off in some of the scenes. Koizumi had some weird frames too,o where her face looked completely off. It didn’t really happen so much for Misa and Jun, but they also show up less in the series.
- The background scenes were pretty well drawn, but I’ve definitely seen better. The scenes were pretty classic across all anime, but that is to be expected because this takes place in a completely normal real world (although Koizumi’s metabolism is out of the world, unreal even).
Educational Aspect - This anime did actually teach me a lot about ramen. The explanations were very clear, and the show opened me up to a lot of different ramen that I didn’t even know existed, like tomato ramen. There’s a lot to learn about ramen, and this show is great for getting started. I especially enjoyed the episodes where instant ramen was used because it gave me new ideas for my own instant ramen. I’ve tried out some of the recipes/hacks from episodes 3 and 4 (Yuu and Koizumi’s hacks/recipes), and they were great.
- The first episode and 2nd episode were great for getting to know the characters and learning the basics of ramen
- Unfortunately, some of the places, like the place where Yuu got cocoa ramen and Koizumi got alkali ramen, closed down over quarantine, but the show made me want to go to Japan more than I already did just for ramen.
Music - The music was pretty good. I liked Koizumi’s theme a lot. It was pretty catchy, but the themes of all the characters except for Koizumi’s are pretty easy to miss.
Insight - This anime is one that you watch once and maybe put on in the background if you need some noise.
- It’s kind of cringy, but in my personal opinion, the ramen completely makes up for it.
- As stated before, this show doesn’t really have a plot; it's different for every part of the episode. Generally, there are 2-3 stories per episode, but some of them, like episode 7, are one big story, even though episode 7 is split into 2 sections.
- I liked this anime, but I’ve 100% seen a lot better anime, even in the 12-episode anime area. I really enjoy food anime, so I may be biased, but overall I'd give this anime a 6.8/10, not bad.
