DESCRIPTION
Dragon Quest is loosely based on Dragon Quest III. The names and some of the characters are familar, but the world map is smaller and a very different shape. The two main characters are Abel and Tialah. Tialah receives the legendary Red Stone from the Aliahan Village sage Master Yogi. Soon after, Tialah is kidnapped by the evil Baramos who wants to use the Red Stone to resurrect The Great Dragon and be granted eternal life. Abel swore to rescue Tialah and he is given the Blue Stone, which can only seal the Dragon once it has been released.

50/100An Incredibly Boring Adventure AnimeContinue on AniListStory/Characters/Pacing(5/10) Having watched a new adaptation of the Dragon Quest Adventure of Dai last year, I wanted to give this vintage anime a try and see if it holds up to this day, but sadly it was pretty disappointing. It's a classic adventure story where the hero and his friends go adventuring in order to save the world from the great Evil. The start feels amazing and refreshing, but soon it becomes a repetitive mess of inconsistency. We're supposed to be traveling the world, but nearly every episode we're just conveniently walking over to some distant land or using teleports to get there... it could be me, but it just feels so overwhelming and disappointing not being able to see more of certain places, my personal favorite would be the village at the start of the show, especially in the first episode of the show. It's sad to see characters being able to just use plot armor to their advantage, however and whenever they want in order to get out of any dire situation at any given moment, yet somehow there's much stuff they could have done differently if they had just used their brains instead of making everything difficult in order for them to just deal with it with ease later on. In this case the characters all felt pretty flat and all had one personality trait. There's a hero, a goofy guy, a guy, and a girl who's pretty strong at first but loses relevance as soon as she's surpassed by the main character, which is sad considering I had high hopes for her and really liked the reason for her motivation to fight. The goofy guy just punches monsters here and there, the creepy guy is supposed to be the smartest of the bunch, but his personality is pretty annoying. (Dodonga was cool and was the best character :) ^^) That being said, I really like the character designs of the main cast, especially Abel, who looks like a true hero. Villains have some of THE WORST designs I have ever seen. I'm just gonna comment on the design of the main villain and his two strongest henchmen and say that the big bad boss looks as if he escaped from a (ADULT LANGUAGE AHEAD) gay porn audition, his strongest underling has an aquarium for a helmet, and his right-hand man has the most annoying laugh I have ever heard and looks like he came straight out of the Dragon Ball Z Bio Broly movie. I'm just going to say that there's also one VERY annoying girl who gets in trouble way too much and causes trouble for the main group of heroes very often and is nothing but useless in the grand scheme of things even though she has a key role at the end of the story. Despite all this, I was able to somewhat enjoy this story and the characters, however I probably won't be tuning in for a re-watch. Art/Animation(3/10)~~~ I know it's a show from the late 80s, but I know 70s anime and anime from the early 80s with much better art consistency and animation. This show was pretty much bottom of the barrel for the time looks-wise. However, it's not a complete flop, as there are a few pretty backgrounds here and there. If I were able to watch this show in better quality than what I was able to find, maybe I would have given it a slightly higher rating. I don't know in which conditions this show was created and how high their budget was, but so many of the scenes that were supposed to look hype ended up looking plain and underwhelming at best. Music/Sound(7/10) I've got nothing to complain however, there wasn't anything notable. Lots of music was reused, but it was pretty decent. Not sure why there wasn't an opening or ending until, like, the 30th episode xD or something, but both were pretty ok. Personal Enjoyment(5/10) It was a pain to watch, but it had its moments however, it was still one of the most boring shows I have ever seen. I understand that if you're a hardcore Dragon Quest fan you will probably end up liking this show more than I have and that is cool :). If there's a remake someday, I will definitely be checking that one out,
