  My wife has no emotions and so do I when watching this series.

  The following review may contain elements that may be considered as a spoiler. However, I will try not to describe the flow of the story beyond the first episode without clearly indicating it.

  Being alone is not an easy task. Most people despite everything need the presence of others in their life. Moreover, being left alone for longer period can have a very negative reflection on well-being. Thats exactly the case with Takuma, who looks like someone who has no one close to him in his surroundings. But is there surely no one?

  Takuma lives with his housekeeping robot, Mina, who is mainly responsible for preparing his meals. As he is introduced in the story and is presented to us, he bought Mina for sole purpose of executing tasks he does not have time due to his work. Thats my main criticism towards his character. In my opinion what fuels the whole story is what I mentioned at the very beginning, the lack of proper contact with other people. Takuma as a character does not display the perception of robots as entities equal to humans by his behaviour or words he uses. Thats makes his actions towards Mina purely opportunistic. Given the lack of other options and a little alcohol, he begins to push against a character who, due to their relationship, essentially has nothing to say. Their relationship at its core is not quite fair, as on Takuma’s part it is solely due to lack of human contact, and on Mina’s part it is a simple command from the owner.

  The whole story is rather light and marketed as slice of life so it might be reasonable to say that all this is just an excuse for the action to flow along. However, it’s not like the whole series is not tying to speaking or considering the topic of robots and how they suppose to be treated. These questions recur between episodes, but each time they seem shallow. As somewhat as if the autor wanted to touch on them, but at the same time not go into a deeper more philosophical tone. Naturally, not all productions need to go into a more serious tone, but it is difficult to shrug off when the situations presented ask for it all by themselves.

  Through lack of willingness to address more serious discussions, the whole series falls into a rather silly daily life where a relationship at its core is creepy. Moreover, when those series are stripped of the setting, it does not present anything interesting. The only premise is relationship of a robot with a human, but when this itself is lacking in depth then we get something that leaves nothing afterwards. In my opinion, there will be better things to watch and spend time on in practically every comparison. As a frivolous story about characters it comes off not so well, because the characters themselves are not particularly interesting. It has no interesting commentary about the world around us and it adds nothing to the discussion, so it's not best one if you want something to stretch the brain. The only thing that remains to be recognised is the lack of invasiveness, watching it does not leave any particular kind of bad taste, and that's something. Could be better, could be worst.

  I may have lied a little in my summary, because it's not that this production didn't trigger any emotions for me. It left one, and it is unsatisfaction, especially since the whole story begged for more serious commentary about relationship between humans and robots.

  If you are sensitive to any information about the plot, skip this section. It's not essential, but adds some complains about plot.

  There is that one part of the story that somehow breaks out of the softer tone - Mina's past. It's pretty obvious from the first episodes that she's no ordinary household robot, and this part of the story is also somewhat addressed. But it just exists, it doesn't seem to have any major impact on story, it doesn't make an interesting point of view. The disappearance of this whole plot would change absolutely nothing. At the same time, it seems quite inconsistent with how all characters except Mina are presented. Mina should be that unique model that has the ability to become attached to someone, who is something more than normal robot. However, all the robots presented seem to have more or less the same capabilities as her, which puts them on an equal footing. So actually what was the purpose of this attempt to show that Mina is something more?

  My husband has too many emotions and all of them are shallow.

  From the very first episode I wasn't sure how to feel about this show and even after finishing it, it's still hard to put into words. It balances on a very thin rope between weird, cute, wholesome and creepy. It's a romcom so I didn't go in expecting a very deep conversation about humanoid androids as companions but the show tries to have these little moments of seriousness that the ridiculous premise just can't support.

  The biggest problem with this show is the protagonist Takuma. He's portrayed as such a pathetic loner that it's hard to see this relationship in the positive light the anime wants you to. For one, the role of androids in this world is not established at all. Over the course of the anime you discover they're common but their actual role in society is never fully explored. If Takuma had actually ordered Mina for the purpose of companionship from the start, I think it would have been a lot better but that's not what happened. He orders her purely as a humanoid tool and all initial interest in her is due to him being overworked, lonely and horny to the point that it feels like a joke I'm not supposed to take seriously. He tells her what he would like and as her owner she obliges him and that unfortunately sets the tone for the whole series. There are even a few moments (like the episode about upgrades) where the show tries to go for genuine emotions but due to Takuma's personality, it feels a little more creepy than it was probably intended and comes off like he just has a robot fetish. If you asked why he fell for her I can honestly only say because she's physically present in his house.

  As for Mina, the show tries to convince you that she's becoming more human-like but it never feels true due to the tone the first episode set. Mina doesn't actually feel like Takuma's wife and instead fulfills his request by acting as the textbook definition of a wife which she actually looked up online. None of her actions are spontaneous but instead carefully researched and altered based on Takuma's reactions. I don't even think she calls Takuma her husband once.

  Now, not everything about the show is terrible. While Takuma's pathetic-ness is the worse part of the show its also some of the endearing parts as well. Takuma is pathetic and not only is the watcher meant to think that but Takuma himself knows it and is reflective of it in earlier episodes with his inner monologue about his sanity. These comedic moments land well and feel more fitting then when the show is trying to be serious. I'd even argue the show relies on this self-deprecation to be funny at all. They don't treat him or his situation like it is normal at all which makes it all the more strange when all the side characters do treat this relationship like its normal. Again, there's nothing that establishes companion androids as normal or even existing in this universe. Just that some androids look and act more human than others. I honestly enjoyed his relationship and interactions with Mamoru much more than I did Mina by the end as they felt more genuine and wholesome and Mamoru actually had the natural development of a personality they try to convince you Mina is having.

  It's a very bizarre and sometimes weird show and it's hard to recommend. If you can make it through the first three episodes then it might be worth it for the wholesome slice of life moments that are sprinkled afterward.
