45/100Don't we all just love a rushed ending even when the story is 266 chapters long?Continue on AniListIf only we could at least reset the ending I wrote this review with a small system I have for myself. This allows me to focus on the things I find the most important. This manhwa being over 250 chapters gives me a lot to cover and I know I didn't go even close to going over every part but I feel like I got the most important things out of the way. Just so you all know this does contain spoilers and I had a lot of critique on this manhwa so not everyone might agree with the things I said. I get why someone could enjoy this read, but sadly for me it wasn't really the case
Story
So the story of this manhwa was kind of okay? That is until the end which just made things worse.. I really tried enjoying what this manhwa was going for. However this story has a few major issues for me. First, we start off with the noble goal of reviving the Dragon of Life and somehow that way by leveling the gate skill we can travel back to the real world, sounds fine enough. Our main villain is the Dragon of the End or whatever you want to call it since there were multiple translations and we were working on this for like 200 chapters. Then suddenly, hey we beat the dragon since it wasn’t fully manifested in a few chapters so now what, we keep offering to the Dragon of Life and we win right, right? Well no we don’t suddenly all things in the Dungeon become different. Because stage three which was conveniently skipped at the start all of a sudden holds so much importance. It has a really special item for the Rabbit and over here we learn time travel! God I missed time travel in a story. We already had some time traveling here but it wasn’t that bad. It was more interacting with past memories which was fairly well done in my opinion however towards the end we got straight interference with the past and future. First it made sense, changes were minor, towards the end, bro was changing everything. Like what do you mean he was just a spectator but now he can do stuff because the fish he fed can recognize him through the separate space he is in? It all made so little sense and then the explanations for the Dungeon and the whole world tree thing all felt so odd. I don’t understand how you can have a 266 chapter story and still rush the ending this bad and the worst part of it all? Because he cut down the earth three that was holding up the earth apparently (even though this in itself doesn’t make sense since world three’s apparently spend a lot of time and energy looking for something to feed upon) we now have a messed up planet earth? So we are being set up for a sequel now while the first plot was closed off in a rushed manner that barely made sense? Like at least give me another 20 chapters then so I get a proper ending then because this just annoyed me so much.
Art
The art I won’t spend too much time on, it was good but nothing too special. I feel like manhwa’s like On the Way to Meet Mom and Myst, Might, Mayhem set the bar high for art but I won’t bash this art at all, it was fine just not many screenshot worthy panels in my opinion.Characters + design
So our main character. He started to grow on me over time, I never hated him really but he wasn’t interesting either. His design looked the coolest in the last few chapters which was a shame because I liked his outfit at the end but I guess the simplicity fitted his character type too. The Rabbit was annoying at the start but also grew on me over time. The best character by far for me was Bahamut the lich. I loved every moment when they showed up and was so sad when they decided to cut his time and relevance. A thing that was just very weird to me was how he seemed to love their old masters, the witches, but apparently betrayed them in the past and wasn’t even that happy with them but whatever that falls more under issues with the story. Anyway Bahamut had a cute design, amazing personality and just always made me feel happy when I saw lil bro. Then for the rest of the human characters, honestly design wise it was alright, just what you expect people to look like while surviving a dungeon in a fantasy story I guess but the issue was. It felt like NONE of them mattered. Sure we see them a bit, some are strong, some have good skills but it doesn’t matter since all of them get shown for a tiny fraction at the end anyway and we don’t care about them any further in the story. Like we see them when they are relevant for something and then they just disappear. Then the villains/enemies were all fine, game assistants were okay and the story was more interesting in my opinion because of them. At least they were entertaining in some way.
Connection with the story
Honestly, the story was not good in my opinion, my favorite character barely got any “screentime” at some point (and only got introduced at like chapter 100), the side characters felt pointless, the two main characters Dawoon and Rabbit needed a long time to grow on me. The chapters sometimes felt like never ending and I had such a hard time reading it at some moments so I think it's safe to say there was no (good) connection.Start and ending
Lastly we have the start of the story and ending since I find these aspects really important. Well first the start, it was okay, I didn’t hate it. I was not that interested in it but I found it alright to read so I don’t have much to say on that. However, as I said before in the story section, I really disliked the ending. And a bad ending really breaks it for me. We had so much time to set up for this ending and we didn’t. What bothers me the most is that the middle part was so repetitive and the elements of the ending could’ve been worked on much earlier which is just such a let down.
Now to finish this up, this was sadly not a read I enjoyed. I tried to keep everything short for this review and I still wrote a lot. For all the reasons I mentioned above, and probably more I didn’t even get to write out, my final rating for this is a 4.5
