One of the best books I've read, 10/10. Definitely read if you like anti-hero protagonists.

This is probably the best novel I've ever read so far, or will ever read in my lifetime. The world-building is top tier and I have never seeing something that comes close to it, let along rivals it. The Gu World is a rich, complex and detailed world by itself, but what Reverend Insanity really shines in is the history. From the creation myth (introduced in the first chapters to explain both the unique power system and the social structure of the Gu World), to Fang Yuan (the protagonist of this story) discovering the truth behind the founding of his village or the millenary struggles that ravage the Gu World.

Everything from chapter 1 is coherent and well thought out, and the story flows naturally without plot holes or plot armour. Even some aspects of the story which may seem random at first might have an explanation 500 chapters later or be the clue for a beautiful executed plot twist 200 chapters later.
The power system is one of the best out there, since it breaks free from the classic magic based ones, which have been seen so many times already. It is fairly balanced, but most importantly, dynamic. Fights never feel boring as they always include some new interesting factor or interesting combat system.

Now however, let's get to the main part of this review, and what really sets this book apart from the rest, the main character. Fang Yuan is a boy from our world that died and reincarnated in the Gu World. So far, this has all been seen before. However, the story doesn't begin here, but rather picks up when Fang Yuan has already lived for 500 years and become a villain, but cornered by his many enemies, is forced to reincarnate 500 years in the past, to where he he started his journey.
Here we witness his new journey, where he uses every and all means to reach his goal - to achieve eternal life.

Fang Yuan is certainly smart, but he isn't the smartest. The schemes he plots are often returned against him, and he only manages to survive thanks to some hidden cards. His actions are unaffected by emotions or morality, only striving for benefits, and he doesn't hesitate to betray or sacrifice anyone if this action yields him a greater gain.
Fang Yuan's is a character that has already completed his character growth, but it's your understanding and the image you have of him that slowly takes form in your mind. This starts in the first book (first 200 chapters), but doesn't reach the climax until way later in the story (that scene would need a review by itself, but I won't spoiler).

The story as a whole is a wild ride, and the ending of each volume is an absolute banger. Also, no harem or romantical relationships. 10/10

THE BEST FICTION EVER CREATED ☯️
When I watched death note i thought it is peak when I watched aot, onepiece , berserk etc i thought they are peak fiction but, Reverend insanity is even peak of peaks.

for me, It is the best piece of fiction ever written

RI has everything like philosophy, psychology, politics, economy, business, action, adventure, etc

it also reflects our world-like hypocrisy of righteous, human behavior toward benefits, the reality of society, weak obeying strong, big fish eat small fish

it also gives a message to its reader about how a man should become his true self, and seek freedom, power, wealth, and most important strength without strength freedom is just an illusion

legends of ren zu is a well-written story and show how it is connected with gu world

the side characters are also well written how some character only came for few chapters but they are better than 99% main characters in other fiction like venerables,dong fang chang fan,feng jiu ge,bai ning bing,hei luo lan etc

RI is changed my life it gives me wisdom that i never get from any Fiction sometimes i wonder how can anyone create a masterpiece like this ? Fuck,how is this possible ?

Another observation I'd like to add: we're all Fang Zheng at the start... constantly being used without our knowledge, thinking we're in control when we're not... but we should become Fang Yuan by the end... Being aware of the reality and taking action to reach our goals even if we die trying. Even if the whole world is against us.
Even if the world is full of devils, I will fight them all. For the sake of my own justice.
Even if the future looks extremely dangerous, I will strive towards it. But my ultimate aim is to be able to see that dream of mine one day.

Despite being one of the greatest web novels of all time, Reverend Insanity unfortunately doesn't translate well into other mediums. RI's prose tongue-tied with monologues and cumbersome, Togashi-esque dialogue, creates a tedious translation into manhua. The author did their best, but RI was ill-suited for this.

The web novel is extremely stuffy with monologues and explanations and attempting to smoothly translate this over into a pictorial, static medium is difficult. The dialogue and artwork struggle to occupy the same space, resulting in crowded paneling. It's readable, but with mediocre management. The author transitions to a webcomic stylization at chapter 65, which creates noticeably better visual flow. However, this sacrifices dialogue, which creates a different chaos. In some instances, the author's forced to insert addendum dedicated to important information that was cut out because of what I've explained. Additionally, censorship plagues throughout. RI is extremely graphic at times, and this adaptation is almost satiric in that regard. Overall, this adaptation somewhat captures the story and characters to a limited extent. It's an awkward experience that leaves much to be desired.

Despite its limited grasp of the original source, I did still enjoy this a bit for adapting one of my favorite arcs. RI's conflicts are largely strategic and psychological, rather than just contests of brute strength. This appeal shines greatly in the mortal cultivation arcs because of mortal weakness, where strategic ingenuity constantly shine throughout. Of course, the immortal arcs are largely strategic. However, I find the first few arcs especially entertaining as Fang Yuan's forced to live within societies while scheming. Fang Yuan constantly one-upping his clansmen and bending the rules makes for an enjoyable, lighthearted start.

This first arc is relatively traditional to the xuanhuan genre and regressor subgenre. A protagonist using his knowledge of the future to his advantage, figuratively and literally slapping faces, deus ex machina, mythological legend lore, etc. The later arcs rapidly establish RI as an anomaly in its themes and plot structure, though. This unfortunately leaves this manhua as a poor representation of what RI is. The series strays from many genre tropes, such as the cycle of ascending to higher realms or lazy cheat systems, and constantly writes in diverse, unique arcs. The geopolitical writing is amazing once the immortal arcs begin, though I find immortals less entertaining than mortals. The power system is by far the most interesting I've seen, possibly across all mediums. Of course, the most interesting aspect of RI is Fang Yuan. His extremely pragmatic nature creates unpredictable events and reinforces the great themes. His monologues often paint RI as a poetic, philosophical work. Although, his lengthy explanations become tiresome after a while. Regardless, this adaptation barely touches on these aspects. If I had read it before the web-novel, I would've certainly been interested enough to read the latter, though. Sadly, the manhua was axed before it even reaches the first arc's conclusion, where the story truly starts to pick up and better depicts Fang Yuan's character and resolve. We don't get to see gender bent Bai Ning Bing, either.

The original web novel is about 2.4k chapters in length and still unfinished. Discussing everything encompassing all of this material here isn't feasible, so all I can do is suggest you to read it rather than this adaptation.
