DESCRIPTION
Despite the use of the Youth Ordinance Bill to enforce curfews for minors and regulate the use of the internet, young people continue to fight for their own freedom through underground methods. One such group calls themselves SIRRUT. They have decided to take on Fumito Nanahara, a man who has great influence on the political world, and basically controls Tokyo with an iron fist. While using the internet as a weapon to discover more information about Fumito, they learn about "Tower", the secret organization behind Fumito which engages in human experimentation.
When members of Surat attempt to set up an ambush in the subway to expose the truth behind "Tower", mysterious creatures suddenly appear and attack the passengers. During this crisis, Saya appears - a young girl who uses a Japanese blade to slay the Old Ones. The same Saya who lost everything dear to her in that horrifying incident in Ukishima Province. What sort of "experiment" is Fumito and "Tower" trying to conduct using the Old Ones? And can Saya finally deliver vengeance to Fumito?
Now, the final battle begins...

86/100Takes all the good out of Blood C and makes it ten times better.Continue on AniList__Mini spoiler free section__ This is a really great continuation of Blood C. This is exactly what I would have wanted the second half of the season to be like. Maybe not exactly, but the pacing, the development is much better. Theres no awkward pauses mid dialogue for no reason, fight scenes are all great (as they should be its a movie after all), and it was overall a nice continuation / conclusion.
I feel a bit critical of this series not because its bad but because I really liked it. I'm kind of sad that I wasn't recommended this series sooner as this is right up my alley.
So if you've watched the first season, then this film is a great continuation of it, adding onto the original to make it even better.
Characters We figured out the dogs deal. Hallelujah. All though no not really. It wasn't really explained why he could talk through the dog or control it rather, or what his deal with wishes was. But I did really like Watanuki's design, and when I delve further into the blood series I'm sure i'll get my answers to some of these things. But as it stands, as I started with blood c and then this film, the dog and wishes are currently ambigious. And what the cost of payment for the katana was.
Meanwhile the new main cast is really nice. It's not as forced as the previous season was, with Mana being a great contrast to Saya. She was well developed with some nice tie-ins to the beginning of the film with the plot twist at the end, and overall was enjoyable to root for in a sense. And the rest of the cast was also a nice comedy relief, with them all bouncing off eachother nicely (except for Yanagi, she could dissapear and it would not change the show in the slightest)
Also watching Tsukiyama hack with her hands and feet at a insane speed will never not be funny, I love typical hacker characters.
I wish we got more of a backstory for a select few characters but realistically theres only so much you can cram into a movie anyways. However Mogari's betrayal / plot twist was more laughable really. I don't feel like it was necessary to the story and it felt like a more "gotcha" moment rather than something that helps the plot.
Meanwhile Fumito is still a weirdo, as always ofcourse. I can understand his goal to a extent but in the end, either I just don't understand him as a character or his whole spiel was pointless in the end. Atleast they made him more likeable in the movie, and treated him like a actual character more than just a plot device.
Lastly and not really importantly, it's nice to have a explanation to Itsuki's motive other than what he stated which summed up to "Saya I started to love you". Although I wish we could've seen how he was recording and taking evidence in season 1 etc. Nevertheless, not really important but it was a nice tie in.
Sound No more annoying ominous sound track every 5 minutes like in season 1. The score was really good this time around, with most scenes having their own appropriate tracks. I especially enjoyed the track running in the background of Mana's backstory monologue.
I stuck with the sub for the film too and realised the dub was available after I was done. However by quickly skimming some character lines in dub I can say that the dub got a LOT better.
As this is a film too, the sound effects were great, alongside any random foley that may have followed. It was overall a great listening experience too.
Visual This film just took all the bad bits out of season 1 and just amplified it 10x. All the scenes were beautifully detailed, characters had more depth, the change of colour pallete was really nice too. It was an overall visual spectacle, keeping all its core values of nice character designs, nice monster designs, and a great viewing experience. Fluid animation was also great, with there being no random hitches or pauses in fight scenes.
However, (and this will bleed into story a bit) having the big kaiju at the end be really bad CGI kind of ruined it for me near the end. It was not necessary, and I hate CGI that does not fit in with a shows theme and art direction. CGI is great. Great when done right, but come on. that monster was atrocious I felt like I was watching something straight out of the MCU. I feel like the whole monster cutscene could've been cut and went a different way - and it would probably turn out even better. I get its a movie and its the final bang but I just wasn't a fan.
Story Let me be clear, the story did more justice to the second half of the season 1 of Blood C. By miles. The characters felt more alive and had more purpose. When I was watching season 1 it felt like all of the characters were copy-pasted out of another series called Another. Not in the sense of character types - but more in the sense that I did not give a shit about any of them.
So when watching the continuation of the first season I was pleasantly suprised. The story was more cohesive. It was a nice story. Sure it was a bit funny at times like with the whole hacker debackle (hackers in anime portrayed like this will never not be funny) but casting that aside it was great.
Now as to the problems I had with the story though are as follows.
Why the fuck was kutou (Fumito's bodyguard if memory treats me right) him? Why was he him? I never really understood how some of the humans in this show kept up with Saya unless they are all on some steroids or the talisman that Fumito gives out makes you superhuman. Furthermore Kutou's transformation was really dissapointing. Really? "Watch true power blah blah" and then he just lets Saya run off while he murks his own allies. And then he gets offscreened. Nice. Even the shitty leech monster got more screentime than Kutou's monster form (the monster in the school was awesome by the way).
That leads me onto Saya's power. She can be so useless one moment and then be the goat in the next - regardless of if her "eye powers" or monster powers were active or not. Your telling me she can have a insane blitz with her father in season 1 but struggles against Kutou the human?? Really?
And Fumito's whole deal with the kaiju was even weirder. Why did his crippled ass brother turn into a monster egg for Fumito when digesting Saya's blood. Since when could Fumito make monsters levitate, let alone eggs. It's kind of why I wish the whole final battle was scrapped. Even the coffee bit was a bit bullshit. Why did the coffee not work Mogari. You tell me. Was the dosage too low? Why did she falter when she did. A switch inside of the liquid or what. It's just a bit confusing for my tiny brain.
But anyways that's all just nitpicking anyway. It was a great film. Leagues better than the second half of season 1. And that's all that matters really. I can finally say without a doubt that Blood C was a great series to watch and I will certainly be watching its other alternate timelines of Saya and the original work too. Even the xxxHolic so I can figure out what the fuck the dogs deal is.
